What is addiction?
Being addicted to something means that not having/participating in it causes withdrawal symptoms which can be unpleasant. It’s easier to give into what you crave, so the cycle continues. As the addiction continues, you may need more and more to achieve the same ‘high’ that you did in the beginning. This means addictions can quickly get out of control.
1 in 3 people are believed to be addicted to something, whether that be nicotine, alcohol, gambling, solvents and even shopping, the internet or work. Chances are someone you know is suffering from an addiction, possibly even you. An addiction can damage your work life and relationships and can lead to psychological and physical effects in the case of substance misuse.
